Fall planting and early Spring harvest prep? Get your tools ready because October is a great month for both! You can plant the following trees and bushes in October: apples, blackberries, blueberries, chestnuts, figs, nectarines, peaches, pears, pecans, persimmons, plums, strawberries, and walnuts. October is also a great month for planting deciduous trees, ornamentals, evergreen trees, and most any shrubs. Daddy Pete’s Planting Mix is an excellent growing medium for all of these items. If you need to amend your existing soil for planting, we recommend using Daddy Pete’s Composted Cow Manure, Daddy Pete’s Kickin’ Chickin, Daddy Pete’s Lawn & Garden Soil, or Daddy Pete’s Mushroom Compost. And don’t forget, October is a good time to fix bare spots in your lawn with Daddy Pete’s Sandy Loam Top Soil.

October is also an excellent month to plant cabbage, collard greens, garlic, kale, mustard greens, onions, spinach, and turnip greens for an early spring harvest. Some of these items may die through the winter, but they will come back for an early spring harvest. You will harvest these items as you are doing spring planting. We recommend Daddy Pete’s Raised Bed Mix or Daddy Pete’s Lawn & Garden Soil for planting these items.
